Cocaine Statistics

• Cocaine is the second most commonly used illicit drug (following marijuana) in the U.S.

• Cocaine statistics estimate that about two million people are cocaine addicts in the United States, and that approximately 33.7 million Americans ages 12 and older had tried cocaine at least once in their lifetimes. (ONDCP)

• Cocaine statistics estimate that adults 18 to 25 years of age currently have the highest percentage of cocaine use than any other age group.

• Cocaine statistics estimate that 1 out of 4 Americans between the age of 26 and 34 have used cocaine in their lifetime.

• Cocaine statistics estimate that Cocaine is the reason of over the half of visits for emergency rooms where drug taking is concerned.

• Cocaine statistics estimate that 90% of people who have used cocaine began using marijuana first.

• Males are more likely to use cocaine than females, as it is often associated with livingly dangerously and wildly. However, statictics show that the gap is narrowing. There are now 0.7 million new male users each year, and 0.5 million new females each year.

• Sadly, cocaine statistics reflect that more than 400,000 infants are born addicted to cocaine each year in the United States.

• Cocaine use is also found along racial lines. Cocaine statistics report that the most common group of cocaine abusers are American Indians and/or Alaskan natives. Their rate of cocaine use is about 2 percent. Other cocaine use rates include 1.6 percent for African Americans, 0.8 percent for Caucasians, 0.8 percent for Hispanics, 0.6 percent for Pacific Islanders and/or Native Hawaiians and 0.2 percent for Asians. As a result, some agency resources are being concentrated in areas where cocaine use is higher.

• Cocaine statistics estimate that 5% of all people who try cocaine become addicted to the drug. Without help from cocaine addiction treatment or rehab, only 1 in 4 people quit cocaine on their own.
